It was raining hard when I woke up. Water was pouring down on the small courtyard outside my bedroom window. By 11am the streets were rivers. I ventured out at about noon as the sky was clearing.

Mazatlan to Navojoa (350 miles)
Morning on the Malecon with the awesome and inspiring Sinje Gottwald. She is traveling the world, alone on an old BMW airhead.
The long straight fast hot road, with a raging cross wind, to Navojoa. Stopping every 100 miles for gas and a cold drink. Seven hours at 4,500 rpm in 90 degree heat, the airhead didn’t miss a beat!

Navojoa to Banámichi (311 miles)
The best possible end to a long day of riding, a comfortable room and delicious home made pizza at Turkeycreek’s Hotel Los Arcos.

Banámichi Sonora to Bisbee Arizona (142 miles)
Big rains flooded the vados north of Banámichi. Thank you Tom (aka Turkeycreek) for riding out to the Rio Bacanuchi with me and seeing me safely across.

A brief visit to a school Tom is helping renovate near Banamichi.

Ruta del rio Sonora

Keeping Mexico safe for tortoises. Saving it from being run-over by gently moving it off the road.

Rio Bacanuchi

Another muddy vado

Bacoachi vado

Tank bag map

Naco Arizona border crossing. Shiny new razor wire, only on the US side, and only at the US border station.

Back at the Copper Queen Hotel, Bisbee Arizona.

Yuma to Los Angeles (278 miles +/-)
In which I visit the Algodones Dunes and photograph the border fence, which results in a very polite but thorough interrogation, background check, and criminal record check by the Border Patrol.
Also, Bombay Beach, The Last Resort, on the hot and deserted Salton Sea

The border fence in the Algodones Dunes.
Photos of the truck are okay, but not of the agents, and defiantly not of national security installations.
Near Calexico, after being cleared of any terrorist intent.

Self portrait at the end of the road, the exact moment when the Border Patrol showed up and made clear that they wanted to know exactly who I was and what I was doing.
